Matching Boho Coaster and Potholder

Hi friends! After taking a brief break to catch up on some projects, I am coming back in full force with this matching coaster/potholder set. These are super cute, versatile, and useful. They both work up really quickly, and I hope you all enjoy!

Material List

-One skein of Lily Sugar ‘n Cream cotton yarn. (I used soft ecru). This is for 2 coasters and one potholder. 

Yarn Darner

-Scissors

-G- 4.00 mm sized Crochet Hook

Stitches Used/Abbreviations

-ch- Chain

-sc- Single Crochet

-slst- Slip Stitch

-bo – bobble *
      *     -Yarn over, insert hook into stitch, yo and pull through (three loops on hook), Yo and pull through 2 of the loops. 

            -Repeat the previous step 3 more times so that you have 4 not-quite-complete dc stitches worked into the same stitch. 

             -There will be 5 loops on the hook. Yo and pull through all 5 loops to finish! 

-mr- Magic Ring

Notes

– The first part is the coaster, and you can either stop there , or continue on to make a potholder. 

-Fringe is optional, but I think it adds to the final product!

– Ch 1 does NOT count as a st. 

-Ch 2 does NOT count as a st. 

-On rounds 7 and 14, make the sc’s after each bobble VERY tight – The single crochet that follows the bobble helps push the bobble towards the front, and is what gives it the texture and shape that it has! 

Part 1: Coaster

Begin by making a magic ring 
 
Round 1: make 8sc in mr. Slst to beginning. Ch 1 and continue working in round.  (8)
 
Round 2: make 2 SC in each round. Ch 1 and continue working in round. (16)
 
Round 3: make *2 SC in same st, 1 SC in next st* repeat for a total of 8 times. Ch 1 and continue working in round. (24) 
 
Round 4: make *2 SC in same st, 1 SC in next 2 st* repeat for a total of 8 times. Ch 1 and continue working in round.  (32)
 
Round 5: make *2 SC in same st, 1 SC in next 3 st* repeat for a total of 8 times. Ch 1 and continue working in round.  (40) 
 
Round 6: make 1 SC in each st on round. Ch 2 and continue working in round.  (40)
 
Round 7: *bo in one st, SC in next st.* Repeat 20 times for a total of 20 bobbles and 20 SC. 
 
Round 8: make 1 SC in every st on round. Slst to beginning. Ch 1 and turn if continuing on to potholder. (40)
 
Tie off and weave in ends here for the coaster and jump to the fringe section! Continue to part 2 if you are making a potholder. 

Part 2: Potholder

Continued from part 1—
 
Round 9: make *2 SC in same st, 1 SC in next st* repeat for a total of 20 times. Slst to beginning. Ch 1 and turn. (60) 
 
Round 10: make *2 SC in same st, 1 SC in next 2 st* repeat for a total of 8 times. Slst to beginning. Ch 1 and turn. (80)
 
Rounds 11-13: make 1 SC in each st on round. Slst to beginning. Ch 2 and turn. (80)
 
Round 14: *bo in one st, SC in next st.* Repeat 40 times for a total of 40 bobbles and 40 SC.
 
Round 15: make 1 SC in every st on round. Slst to beginning. (80)
 
Tie off and weave in ends.  Now for the fringe!8

Fringe!

(You can cut them as long as you like!)
 
Fringe for the coaster: 
Cut 40 pieces of yarn that are 2.5 inches long. Thread 1 piece through one sc. Continue this until you have a piece of fringe on each SC. (Total of 40). 
 
Fringe for the potholder: 
Cut 80 pieces of yarn that are 3.5 inches long. Thread 1 piece through one sc. Continue this until you have a piece of fringe on each SC. (Total of 80). 
 
Go around the edges of the fringe with scissors when you are done to even it out (If necessary). 
 
Lastly, brush the fringe out a bit to separate the threads in the yarn.
