Notes
-The body of the swimsuit top and the straps is worked in one part. The ruffles are added after.
-If you would like the gauge to be smaller/bigger, use a smaller or bigger hook!
–
You could have two different sizes for this pattern. 1) Your ribcage size (noted as ribs under bust in graphic) and 2) your bust size. I am going to note when to use which measurement depending upon the part of the swimsuit.
-For example, I personally have a fuller bust (size L/XL), but small ribcage size, so I will be using each of these measurements for different parts.
-You can also use the same size for both! The great thing about this pattern is the way that the back straps are looped–you can adjust as necessary.
-the different sizes are in (), and in the order (small, medium, large, xl)
-Because you can mix and match sizes, I will not be putting a set number of rows after part 1. There are many different combinations!
Part 1- (use MEASUREMENT 2- bust size)
Ch (11,11,15, 19)
Row 1: HDC in second ch from hook, then hdc in each ch on row, Ch 1 and turn. (10, 10, 14, 18)
Row 2-?: HDC in each stitch on the row. Ch 1, and turn.
Small | Medium | Large | XL |
Rows 2-6 | Rows 2-6 | Rows 2-8 | Rows 2-8 |
Part 2 increase- (use MEASUREMENT 1- ribcage size)
Next Row A : 2 HDC in the first st on this row. HDC in every remaining st, ch 1 and turn
Next Row B : HDC in each st on row, with TWO HDC in the middle st. Ch 1 and turn.
**(ie if there are 15 stitches on the row, put two HDC in st number 8) (an easy way to do this is take the st number, add one, and divide by two. This is the stitch that needs two HDC on top of it!)**
Small | Medium | Large | XL |
Repeat rows A and B 7 times for a total of 14 rows. | Repeat rows A and B 7 times for a total of 14 rows. | Repeat rows A and B 8 times for a total of 16 rows. | Repeat rows A and B 9 times for a total of 18 rows. |
Part 2a Strap- (use MEASUREMENT 1- ribcage size)
Chain the designated number for your size, then HDC back down the chain and ONTO THE TOP. This is simply continuing adding to the top…picture added below.
Small | Medium | Large | XL |
Ch 150 | Ch 150 | Ch 175 | Ch 200 |
Part 3 decrease- (use MEASUREMENT 1- ribcage size)
Now, your hook should be on the bottom of the top (opposite the increase section and strap).
Next Row C: HDC into every st until the last two. In the last two st, HDC2TOG. (a decrease). Ch 1 and turn.
Next Row D: HDC in every st on row. Ch 1 and turn.
Small | Medium | Large | XL |
Repeat rows C and D 4 times for a total of 8 rows. | Repeat rows C and D 5 times for a total of 10 rows. | Repeat rows C and D 6 times for a total of 12 rows. | Repeat rows C and D 7 times for a total of 14 rows. |
Next Row: After each row C and D are repeated to the designated number, ch 1 and turn. Then, HDC 1 time in every st on the row. Ch 1 and turn. You should now be at the top of the bathing suit.
Part 3a Increase- (use MEASUREMENT 1- ribcage size)
Next Row E: HDC in every st on row. Ch 1 and turn.
Next Row F: HDC into every st until the last st. In last st, make two HDC. (an inc). Ch 1 and turn.
Small | Medium | Large | XL |
Repeat rows E and F 4 times for a total of 8 rows. | Repeat rows E and F 5 times for a total of 10 rows. | Repeat rows E and F 6 times for a total of 12 rows. | Repeat rows E and F 7 times for a total of 14 rows. |
Part 4 Strap #2- (use MEASUREMENT 1- ribcage size)
Chain the designated number for your size, then HDC back down the chain and ONTO THE TOP. This is simply continuing adding to the top…
Small | Medium | Large | XL |
Ch 150 | Ch 150 | Ch 175 | Ch 200 |
Part 4a Decrease- (use MEASUREMENT 1- ribcage size)
Now, your hook should be on the bottom of the top (opposite the increase section and strap).
Next Row G : HDC in each st on row until last two st. In last to st, HDC2TOG (decrease). Ch 1 and turn.
Next Row H : HDC in each st on row, with TWO HDC in the middle two sts. Ch 1 and turn.
**(this will not be the perfect middle because your number of st should be odd, therefore if there are 15 stitches on the row, put HDC2TOG in sts 8-9) (an easy way to do this is take the st number, add one, and divide by two. The other st should be one more than that.)**
Small | Medium | Large | XL |
Repeat rows G and H 7 times for a total of 14 rows. | Repeat rows G and H 7 times for a total of 14 rows. | Repeat rows G and H 8 times for a total of 16 rows. | Repeat rows G and H 9 times for a total of 18 rows. |
Part 5- (use MEASUREMENT 2- bust size)
Row I: HDC in each stitch on the row. Ch 1, and turn. Repeat for designated number below, then ch 1 and turn.
Small | Medium | Large | XL |
Rows 2-6 | Rows 2-6 | Rows 2-8 | Rows 2-8 |
Part 6- (MEASUREMENT 2- bust size)
You should be at the bottom of the bathing suit (the side opposite where you did your increases/straps).
Size Small and Medium: HDC 2, ch 1, sk 1 st, HDC 4, ch 1, sk 1 st, HDC 2. Ch 1 and turn.
Next row: HDC 10 across. Ch 1 and turn onto the BOTTOM of the bathing suit.
Size Large: HDC 2, ch 1, sk 1 st, HDC 8, ch 1, sk 1 st, HDC 2. Ch 1 and turn.
Next row: HDC 14 across. Ch 1 and turn onto the BOTTOM of the bathing suit.
Size XL: HDC 2, ch 1, sk 1 st, HDC 12, ch 1, sk 1 st, HDC 2. Ch 1 and turn.
Next row: HDC 18 across. Ch 1 and turn onto the BOTTOM of the bathing suit.
Part 6a- (measurement irrelevant)
Next, you will be outlining the bottom of your bathing suit, working across the suit instead of in rows.
-Count the number of TOTAL rows on your bathing suit. You will make 1 HDC in each row across the bottom.
Part 6b- (MEASUREMENT 2- bust size)
-After you complete this across the bottom, you should now be on the other side of suit. Work back onto the rows, just like you did on the other side.
Size Small and Medium: HDC 2, ch 1, sk 1 st, HDC 4, ch 1, sk 1 st, HDC 2. Ch 1 and turn.
Next row: HDC 10 across. FO
Size Large: HDC 2, ch 1, sk 1 st, HDC 8, ch 1, sk 1 st, HDC 2. Ch 1 and turn.
Next row: HDC 14 across. FO
Size XL: HDC 2, ch 1, sk 1 st, HDC 12, ch 1, sk 1 st, HDC 2. Ch 1 and turn.
Next row: HDC 18 across. FO
Part 7 RUFFLES- (all sizes are the same)
Attach yarn to first hdc of the strap. (This will be right next to the bust of the top, not the very end of the strap). Make sure you attach so it is facing OUT towards the shoulders, not in towards the neck.
(This means you will be going down the wrong side on one of the straps)
Row 1: Sl st into the st that you just fastened to. SC 1, *2 HDC in one st, HDC* (repeat from ** 14 times), SC 1, and slst 1. (total of 2 SC, 2 slst, and 42 HDC)
Row 2: Slst onto the second st (which is a SC). 7 SC, 7 HDC, 14 DC, 7 HDC, 7 SC . Then sl st. Your last slst should be in the second to last st, which is a SC. (44 st total including sl st)
Next row- sl st into second st, SC 4, hdc 33, sc 3, 1 sl st (again in the second to last st). FASTEN OFF (42 st total)
Loop your straps like this picture below and you should be good to go!
AND NOW YOU ARE DONE! Thank you guys so much for tuning in. Be sure to tag me in any attempts at this pattern, and as always, do not hesitate to reach out with any questions! Have a FAB day!
